Ben Bulben, sometimes spelt Benbulben or Benbulbin, it is a large rock formation in County Sligo, Ireland. It is part of the Dartry Mountains, an area sometimes called “Yeats Country”.

Many a Celtic Legend had its beginnings on or around Benbulbin and when you see it and its stunning lines and curves, it’s easy to see why it would inspire the storyteller.

If you feel inclined to climb Benbulbin, please choose the south face for your venture as it is far easier to climb than it is from the north face which is much steeper and tends to attract some blustery winds at times which can be extremely dangerous to any climber.

At the foot of Ben bulben you will find the little town of Drumcliff which is recognised by the Church of Ireland and the famous Celtic Cross nearby. It is in the graveyard of the church that William Butler Yeats is believed to be buried, though this is sometimes a matter for conjecture as some would believe that he is actually interred in France.
