Mono Lake is one of the weird and best place to travel in California. It has no way out to the ocean and this is why the content of the water is quite salty. The unique consistence of salts in water are the ideal environment for a specific kind of shrimps and there are thousands of birds that come every season and feed with the shrimps! This small perfect ecosystem and the one of a kind structure of the lake make it a notable member of the group with the weird places to travel around the world.

Blood Pond, Japan

Kyushu is a Japanese Island and there are the “hell’s” hot springs which are one of the most spectacular nature creations. They are nine and this is why they call them the nine hells. Most spectacular of them is the Blood pond, whose red colour is achieved because of the high iron content in the water. Yes, Certainly it is not good for bathing, but its Weird and unique colour makes it spectacular enough to be among the Weird  places on Earth!

The river springs from Sierra Morena mountains and what makes it unique is the colouration of the water – with red hues. Close to the river there are mines for different metals – copper, precious metals, iron and others, which have been exploited since ancient times. Thanks to the mining process the acidity of the water is very high and of course colour is also changed. It is good that we know the scientific explanation of this phenomenon, because it would be rather scare otherwise… Rio Tinto River is one of the weird places to travel around the world and one of the attractive tourist sites in Spain.

In Turkey there is a fabulous place in Denizli region. This is a unique formation created by the hot springs. The terraces consist of carbon minerals and since ancient times they attract travellers with their beauty. It is known that the white water of the terrace pools have the power to heal and this is another important reason for the many people visiting the place. In ancient times there were castles and a city, because people knew that this was a place one of a kind. you can step only barefoot there, because shoes are not allowed! Now this place is one of the worlds most desired destinations.

Socotra is a small Yemeni archipelago of four islands and islets in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Horn of Africa, about 350 kilometers south of the Arabian peninsula. You would be inclined to think you were transported to another planet – or traveled to another era of Earth’s history.  Socotra Island, which is part of a group of four islands, has been geographically isolated from mainland Africa for the last 6 or 7 million years. The archipelago features narrow coastal plains, a limestone plateau with caves, and mountains which rise to 1,525 meters above sea level.

Chocolate Hills, Bohol Island

Chocolate Hills in Bohol are one of the most famous tourist attractions in the Philippines. There are hills, with the same unique shape – like cones, and almost the same measures – between 30 and 50 meters high. It will again give a feeling of another planet.The hills are about 1268 and have limestone structure, covered by grass. The name “chocolate” is given because of the brown colour of the grass in the dry season, otherwise they are green. There are interesting legends about the forming of the hills: that they are remains of the battle between two giants and a more romantic one – the hills were formed by the tears of a giant, crying for his mortal love.

Hell’s Door, Turkmenistan

This weird place in located in Turkmenistan, where only brave people dare to go. It is an abandoned mine, whose exploitation was held. There is a big hole, submitting gas, and people decided to set a fire and let the gas burn, but what a surprise – the gas is still burning! The diameter of the hole is about 70 meters and really resembles the idea of hell. Miners, who in 1971 decided to burn the gas and continue working in the mine, were thinking that it will be over for some days but now, so many years after, hell’s door is still covered with flames and is one of the weird places to travel around the world!

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia is a salt field spreading for about 10,582 square kilometres. The layer of salt is some meters thick and you can drive a car on it. In the wet season the salt field is covered with water but tourists still can drive over. There are different touristic tours offering a walk over this unique place and you can even stay at a hotel where everything is made by salt! Salar de Uyuni is one of the most interesting places for all travellers looking for adventure, uniqueness and unforgettable views!
