The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is a method of quantifying and numerically bench marking the environmental performance of a country’s green policies. This index was developed from the Pilot Environmental Performance Index, first published in 2002, and designed to supplement the environmental targets set forth in the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.
In the 2012 scorecard, the top five countries were Switzerland, Latvia, Norway, Luxemburg, and Costa Rica. The bottom five countries were South Africa, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq.
Switzerland is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful countries because of the breathtaking nature. However, Swiss are still working hard for creating greener society. The government has imposed a fee for disposing thrash in the country, but the people are pretty interested for ecology as well.
