5. Inca Rope Bridge

Inca rope bridges were simple suspension bridges over canyons and gorges (pongos) to provide access for the Inca Empire.

 Bridges of this type were suitable for use since the Inca people did not use wheeled transport—traffic was limited to pedestrians and livestock. The bridges were an integral part on the Inca road system and are an example of Inca innovation in engineering.

6. Liuguanghe Bridge

Liuguanghe Bridge is a 305 metre high beam bridge at Liu Guangzhen, Guizhou, China. It held the record for world’s highest bridge between 2001 and 2003, surpassing the 72-year old 291 m (955 ft) high Royal Gorge Bridge.

The Liuguanghe Bridge forms part of China National Highway 321 between Bijie and Guiyangand has a 240 metre long span. The highest pillar, which sits on the egde of a steep, deep valley is 90 metres high.

The Si Du River Bridge  is a 1,222-meter-long (4,009 ft)suspension bridge crossing the valley of the Si Du River near Yesanguan in Badong Countyof the Hubei Province of the People’s Republic of China.

8. Seven Mile Bridge, Florida

Besides being seven miles long, the bridge itself doesn’t seem that scary. But its position in the Florida Keys makes it a prime target for the region’s many hurricanes. In fact, the current bridge is the second iteration.

The newer bridge scrapped the swing span concept of the original in lieu of a sturdier 65-foot-high arch to allow boats to pass by. While it may be sturdier, we still wouldn’t want to be on it during a storm.

The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is a method of quantifying and numerically bench marking the environmental performance of a country’s green policies. This index was developed from the Pilot Environmental Performance Index, first published in 2002, and designed to supplement the environmental targets set forth in the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

In the 2012 scorecard, the top five countries were Switzerland, Latvia, Norway, Luxemburg, and Costa Rica. The bottom five countries were South Africa, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iraq.

1. Switzerland, 76.69

Switzerland is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful countries because of the breathtaking nature. However, Swiss are still working hard for creating greener society. The government has imposed a fee for disposing thrash in the country, but the people are pretty interested for ecology as well. For example, there are cities, smaller towns actually, in which using car is prohibited. That’s how Switzerland remains on the top of this list for years.

They plan to make diesel fuel more expensive than the eco fuels and stimulate people to use the second ones.

Luxembourg holds top fourth position in the EPI index. A waste management concept has been elaborated in the United Arab Emirates and L.E.E.’s biogas plants are finding favour in European and Asian markets. China has been open to Rotarex’s compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kits which slash pollution from old cars and motorbikes, and Prefalux technology is keeping scientists safe and warm in Belgium’s “Princess Elisabeth” Antarctic research centre.

Research facilities offer interesting posibilities, including the “Environment and Agro-biotechnologies” department of the Gabriel Lippmann public research institute. They specialise in digesters to assist research into areas as diverse as biogas, waste-water transformation and biopolymer production. Luxembourg is also proud of its national resource centre for environmental technologies (CRTE) which leads in the areas of life-cycle analysis, eco-design, eco-construction and renewable energies.

4. Costa Rica, 69.03

Costa Rica government is strongly committed to following the Icelandic example for use of renewable energy sources. They have set a goal to become carbon neutral until 2021! The land suffered deforestation for years in order to be made space for agriculture, but now one of the main goals is reforestation of the country, planting over five million trees over last five years.

5. France, 69

The indicators that launched France so high on the EPI list are increasing of use of eco fuels, conserving energy, increasing renewable energy rate, increasing of organic farming, etc. In order to stimulate the use of eco friendly energy sources, the government also promoted reduction of taxes for those who use solar panels. However, the most interesting measure toward accomplishing their eco goals is the use of, believe it or not, the straw bales for construction of buildings.
